Galactic Center: Magnetized Threads Weave Spectacular Galactic Tapestry

Chandra issued an image release and NASA image of the day 5/27/21 entitled “Galactic Center: Magnetized Threads Weave Spectacular Galactic Tapestry”.  A new panorama provides an unprecedented X-ray view above and below the center of Milky Way.  This new survey builds on previous Chandra observations, stitching together 370 separate pointing’s of the telescope.  In this main image, different bands of X-rays from Chandra (orange, green, purple) have been combined with radio data (gray).  These new data reveal threads of superheated gas and magnetic fields near the center of the Milky Way. Also, listed below is the link to Anderson Cooper’s Full Circle from Friday with Miles O’Brien discussing recently released Milky Way Images produced using many years of Chandra data.
