Data User Profile for ST11 Earth Scientist Published by NASA Earthdata

Timothy Lang (ST11) was recently profiled on the NASA Earthdata website (https://www.earthdata.nasa.gov/learn/data-user-profiles/user-profile-timothy-lang). The profile discusses Lang’s research on thunderstorms, lightning, precipitation, and winds and how he uses NASA datasets from the Global Hydrometeorology Resource Center (GHRC), Data and Information Services Center (DISC), and the Physical Oceanography (PO) Distributed Active Archive Centers (DAACs) in his work. In particular, the profile discusses recent publications by Lang that use these NASA datasets to study scientific questions like how airborne radiometers can be used to retrieve important atmospheric properties, how the International Space Station Lightning Imaging Sensor (ISS LIS) performs relative to other spaceborne and ground-based lightning sensors, and whether thunderstorms over the ocean produce stronger gust fronts than non-thunderstorms. Lang is also a data provider to the GHRC, as he is the instrument lead for ISS LIS and the Advanced Microwave Precipitation Radiometer (AMPR), which are featured on that DAAC.
