NASA Applied Sciences Team (AST) Principal Investigator (PI) Launches Crop Mapping Tool for Brazil

On December 19th, 2022, SERVIR Amazonia and AST PI, Naiara Pinto (NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory), had a virtual launch of her service for Brazilian stakeholders, which included the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA), NGO Imaflora, and the subregional authority of SEMAS-Para. During the launch, Pinto presented the cacao and oil palm maps she has produced in collaboration with local stakeholder input and field observations. Pinto is currently working on making the production of these maps into an operational process that receives L-band SAR data inputs from the upcoming NISAR mission. Additionally, the crop maps produced by this project are being integrated into TerraClass, a land use visualization software managed by EMBRAPA.
