Imaging X-Ray Polarimetery Explorer (IXPE) News and Publications

On 7/18/23, NASA posted “NASA’s IXPE Fires Up Astronomers With New Blazar Findings” (https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/ixpe/feature/nasa-s-ixpe-fires-up-astronomers-with-new-blazar-findings), reporting rotating x-ray polarization in the blazar Markarian 421, suggesting a helical magnetic-field structure within its jet. See the image below.

On 7/28/23, Astronomy & Astrophysics published online “X-ray polarimetry and spectroscopy of the neutron star low-mass X-ray binary GX 9+9: An in-depth study with IXPE and NuSTAR” by Francesco Ursini et al. On 8/18/23, Astrophysical Journal Letters published online “First Detection of X-Ray Polarization from the Accreting Neutron Star 4U 1820−303” by Alessandro Di Marcoet al. On 8/22/23, Astrophysical Journal Letters published online “IXPE and Multiwavelength Observations of Blazar PG 1553+113 Reveal an Orphan Optical Polarization Swing” by Riccardo Middei et al. These were the 29th, 30th, and 31st discovery papers published by the IXPE Science Team. And on 8/21/23, the IXPE Italian Instrument Team presented 2 papers at SPIE Optics + Photonics, in San Diego.
