Organized a Workshop to Build an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Foundation Model (FM) for Weather and Climate

IMPACT co-hosted a two-day onsite workshop in Huntsville, AL from 9/20-21/23 with researchers from Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), IBM Research, NASA (Ames and GSFC), NVIDIA and various universities. The primary objective of the workshop was to align this diverse expertise toward the collective creation of an AI foundation model (AI FM) for weather and climate in the next six to eight months. A plan for model development, analysis, and validation with tentative release to the public in spring 2024 was developed collaboratively.
